Focus More, Do Less

Second IWYS 2012 Hiring Email

*This was the 2nd email, sent at 5pm on Sept 19*

Hello potential 2012 IWearYourShirt.com (IWYS) shirt wearers!

This is the 2nd email to go out to this list. If you missed the first email click here to read it. To keep this email a bit shorter, here are a couple things you should know in applying to be a 2012 t-shirt wearer:

  • Read the 1st email I sent out.
  • Your video resume should be filmed to stand out from the crowd. If you sit in front of the camera, in one spot, for 3 minutes, don’t expect to get hired.
  • Your video is very important, but so is your community of friends online. We want them to show how excited they are for you to a shirt wearer and that they want to watch you for all of 2012. Get them ready.
  • If you’re hired, is this a 9-5 job? Kind of. You are expected to be up by 9am (your timezone) and have your YouTube video of the day up by 5pm (your timezone). We typically film a day in advance to stay ahead of the curve and it’s best to have the videos up in the morning to promote all day.
  • The current shirt wearers spend, on average, 3-4 hours filming/editing/uploading video each day and the rest is spent planning, learning about sponsors, taking photos and social media’ing. It’s a pretty awesome gig.
  • Social media doesn’t sleep. If you expect to stop tweeting/facebooking after 5pm each day, this job isn’t for you. The IWYS community has been built to talk about companies for an entire day, it doesn’t take much effort to talk to your existing and new friends after 5pm!
  • Start growing your social media audiences now. If you have 0 followers on Twitter and 0 friends on Facebook, you’re probably not going to get hired. Even if you already have a solid group of followers/friends, work daily to increase them. If you want tips, ask me, I’m happy to help. DO NOT game the system to get more followers/friends.

I’m honored that you’re on this list and are interested to work for IWYS in 2012. I also want to be as crystal clear as possible that we need people who can edit videos, are comfortable on camera and understand the basics of marketing a company (what to say, what not to say). You have plenty of time to learn how to edit videos, to practice being on camera and remember, practice makes perfect!

Here are some places you can connect with me: TwitterFacebookYouTubeUstream

Good luck and I’ll send another email next week,

Jason Sadler
